The Best Ways to Protect Your Family at Home

February 21, 2019 by Sophia Greenwood

Protecting your family

You need to be conscious of your families security and their safety while they are at home.  You need to consider keeping your family safe from possible intruders as well as keeping them safe from things like a house fire.  Having smoke alarms is the best way to protect your family from a fire and you should invest in a home security system to protect them against threats from the outside.

Smoke alarm

In the majority of cases, when there is a house fire, it is the smoke that kills rather than the actual fire itself.  Smoke is known as the silent killer as it quickly asphyxiates people, usually while they are sleeping.  If you have a smoke alarm you will be alerted to any sign of smoke straight away and you can either go and put out the fire or evacuate the building.  Smoke alarms have been known to save lives in many instances.

Security alarm

A security alarm is a good system to have to protect your belongings and your property while you are not at home.  You set the alarm before you go out by entering in a pin code, and the alarm will detect any movement within your house.  If it does the alarm will go off alerting both the neighbors and the security company.

Security doors

Having security doors is a great way to protect your family while they are at home.  It is a lot harder to break into a home with a security door, so it protects your property while you are out, but you are able to control your level of security while you are home.  For example, if someone knocks on the front door you are able to answer the door while still keeping the security door shut.  You will be able to speak to and see the person but they can not get in.  You can also keep your front door open during warmer weather and let the breeze blow through your house without intruders or insects getting in.

Security screens

Security screens work in a similar way to security doors.  Installed over your windows, security screens make it extremely difficult for anyone to get in through your windows.  They make screens that won’t impede your view but are still strong enough to keep intruders out.  You are also able to leave the windows open during summer, even at night, and be happy knowing that your home is still secure.  Once again you won’t have a problem with intruders or annoying insects.

Fencing

As well as increasing the privacy around your property a good high fence will improve the security of around your home.  You should also have a gate with a lock.  Your fence can be built out of timber or you may choose to have a solid brick wall built.  If you have front gates you might want to think about having automatic gates installed so that you don’t have to get out of the car to open them, which can be inconvenient, especially when it is raining.  To increase security and see what is going on at the front of your property you could position security cameras at your front gate.
