Every weekday morning I drive my two children to school. On most days, I park in the school parking lot and walk them onto school property. I do this because it is quicker than dropping them off in the car loop.
Well, today started out like any other day. I piled the kids into the car and off we go to school. While waiting at the traffic light to turn onto the street that leads to school, I started thinking about how warm and cozy my feet felt.
At that moment, I realized that I have left the house in my slippers. To some people this may not be a big deal. However, for me it is. This is such a big deal because first of all my slippers are pink and should have been thrown away months ago. The front is all ripped and the foam padding is pouring out. The bottoms of each slipper are also torn. Additionally, I am wearing neon green socks. Why? You ask. Because they are the warmest socks I have and I since I work at home and usually don’t see anyone – no big deal.
Some of you may be wondering why I haven’t purchased new slippers. Well, I have been looking for new slippers since the beginning of January. I like a certain kind of slipper – I like the ones that are like boots. I’m cold natured and I like my feet to be warm. Since I live in Florida and the weather should be getting warm (which it’s not yet) the stores have stopped reordering these types of slippers. The only sizes that are left are too small. So I will continue to wear these old germ traps until next winter when at that time I can purchase something respectable.
So I tell my kids that I have to drop them off in the car loop today because I have my slippers on. My daughter (she’s 7) says very understandable, “it’s okay mommy, no problem”. My son, (he’s 10) is just laughing hysterically. Which then causes me to laugh imaging myself walking into school with this old, ratty slippers with my neon green socks. Chances are I would run into someone and end up standing in the parking lot talking for several minutes.
Well, that’s how my day started. I think now I’ll take my dog for a walk with my neon green socks but I’ll wear my sneakers this time.
