Taking down the holiday decorations isn’t nearly as much fun as decking your halls. However, taking the time to store and organize your decorations carefully will make it easier to find everything quickly, easily and in good shape next year. Here are some tips to make the job easier.
Keep Your Ornament Boxes
Store your ornaments in the box it came in. It usually includes a form fitting piece that protects the ornament. If you no longer have the box, then wrap each item in tissue paper and then put the wrapped ornament in a plastic bag to keep glitter contained.
Divide Your Ornaments
Use cardboard dividers to keep your ornaments from bumping into each other. You can make your own partitioned box using cardboard dividers that come in wine cases. Check at your local liquor store for any they no longer need.
Store in a Safe Place
Your decorations will last longer if you store them a place that is free of dampness or extreme temperatures. Damp basements can ruin decorations and attics can have extreme temperature changes. Store decorations in a water tight plastic container with a packet of desiccant which helps keep moisture away.
